Shaw wants response against the Brewers

Caretaker boss expecting tough test from Burton Albion

Coventry City caretaker manager Richard Shaw is hoping for a response from his players against Burton Albion in the Johnstone Paint Trophy.

City lost their first game this season at Crewe Alexandra with Max Clayton's first half goal sending the Sky Blues home empty-handed at the weekend.

Shaw believes the Brewers will be a difficult test for City, who shouldn't underestimate their League Two opposition.

He commented: "They are a very good League Two side who have good, young players so it will be a difficult test for us.

"We have to be properly prepared for the game and in the right mindset as if we underestimate them, they will take advantage of that.

"We want to take every game seriously this season and Burton will be no exception as we want to represent this club well on every occasion.

"It will be a good chance for us to respond to the Crewe defeat and get a good win under our belts, if we play to our best."

The Ricoh Arena clash against the Brewers will be the club's second of eight matches in September, including a trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the League Cup.

Shaw has reiterated to his players that the whole squad will have a part to play in a busy month for the Sky Blues.

He added: "It will be a difficult month for the players and as I have said to them, everyone will have a part to play.

"There are 46 games in the league and then with the added cup competition in the shape of the Johnstone Paint Trophy, it is a huge workload.

"That’s part of the reason we brought in David McGoldrick because all areas of the squad need cover.

"There are players in the squad who have played every game so far and that can't happen in every game. But we have a good squad this year which will be pivotal towards the end of the season."
