Steven Jennings has backed John Hughes to succeed at the Pools, just not this weekend...
Coventry City midfielder Steven Jennings is wary of the threat Hartlepool can pose having appointed John Hughes as their new manager this week.
Jennings has started the last five games for the Sky Blues and scored his first goal for the club in the FA Cup First Round win over Arseley Town.
The midfielder moved to the club in the summer after spending three years in the Scottish Premier League with Motherwell.
Jennings said he is fully aware of the reputation the former Hibs manager Hughes has and knows Coventry will face a difficult test because of it.
He said: “I don’t know too much about the players there if I’m honest because I have been away for three years.
“But I know the manager they have just brought in. John Hughes has a good reputation up in Scotland and he’ll certainly have them up for the game.
“They could be facing anyone on Saturday and they will be up for it as he (John Hughes) is that type of manager. They call him ‘Yogi’ up there and he is a bubbly character. He is not shy in giving anybody the ‘hairdryer treatment’ as well.
“It isn’t the best of places to go to either as the conditions can often be difficult there but that is something we will have to overcome.
“We have to concentrate on our game and not anything else as if we can get it right, we can definitely win the game.”
Coventry have sold over 400 tickets for the long trip to Hartlepool as the terrific away support from the Sky Blue Army this season continues.
Jennings believes the away support has been fantastic this season and hopes the side can produce another away win for them.
He added: “The supporters have been there through thick and thin this season. Some of the away support has been fantastic as I remember at the Crewe match, there seemed to be more away fans than home fans.
“It certainly gives us a boost as we don’t want to let them down. If they get there in their numbers then it is definitely better for us.
“I suppose a trip to Hartlepool is seen as a proper badge of honour for the supporters and I hope we can deliver what we want to do for them.”
