Jennings itching to get back for City

The City midfielder knows it will be difficult to get into side..

Coventry City midfielder Steven Jennings is itching to get back in the side after a spell on the sidelines.

The 27-year old moved to the club in the summer on a free transfer after spending three years with Scottish Premier League side Motherwell.

The former Tranmere Rovers player featured in every Coventry game until he suffered a hip injury in the 2-1 defeat to Carlisle United.

Jennings came on in the second half in the 4-0 win over York City and now he can't wait to get back into Mark Robins' side.

The midfielder said: "It was really nice to get back out there against York City and the gaffer said when I was going on, just have a good work out and I really enjoyed it.

"I've been out for two and a half weeks and it has been frustrating for me. It was nice to be part of a win and get on the ball again.

"I've been itching to get back and the injury was just a bit unfortunate really. I've been working hard in training to get myself back and it was nice to get on the bench.

"The lads did the job on Saturday so I wasn't needed then. Even though the job was done against York, it was important I got on.

"I think the lads have really started moving forward over the past couple of weeks and I want to be doing that with them."

Since Jennings has been out of the side, Adam Barton, James Bailey and Franck Moussa have all played in central midfield in what is a strong area of the side for Coventry.

The City midfielder knows he will have to work hard to get back into the side, especially after the four-match unbeaten run.

He said: "Of course, it will be very difficult for me to get into the side. I have no arguments at the minute as the lads are playing well.

"They are keeping people out of the team and I suppose that's what you need in a big squad. Everyone is raising their game and pushing hard to be in the side.

"We are squad who are looking to challenge for promotion and obviously you need the numbers to get you through a season.

"It is even very competitive to get onto the bench at the moment with the lads in the stand itching to play their part.

"The lads who are playing have to be on their toes to make sure they are keeping others out of the team.

"That pressure is important in football and the squad is boosted at the minute by the results we are achieving.

"We beat York City 4-0 and hopefully we can bring more goals into the league. That would be nothing but a 100% confidence booster for everyone."
